Play imitates life

So we had some major excitement over the weekend here. Grandma S was thrown on her back and then stepped on by a horse, breaking her left ankle and right tibia in multiple spots. She was medevac'd to a trauma hospital and had surgery right away on her ankle. The other leg will be operated on today or tomorrow. Although the recovery will be lengthy, the surgeon said the first surgery went well...given the situation, Grandma is looking wonderful. Yikes!

Where's the imitation part you might be asking? The girls, who have recently been obsessed with playing birth and new baby, have added a twist to their play. This morning I was informed that E had broken her leg when a horse stepped on it, but was in bed snuggling C's new baby. For anyone concerned with her condition, E was eating pizza and having her medicine so she wouldn't hurt so much.

Friday update

Grandpa is in town visiting, so we went to the zoo yesterday and the park today. Weather is back to high 60s and low 70s - yes, this really is the desert! There's nothing better than taking the kids outside all day in January - without bundling up! Be sure to check out the photo link below for more park and zoo pics!

This is the desert?

It is pouring rain today - this bucket filled in 1/2 hour (it was under the eave, but not under a gutter or anything)! So we're taking advantage of being house-bound by finally taking down our Christmas decorations and tree. One month - not too bad, right?
Later in the day, there was actually SNOW in the city! Just three miles down the road from our house a couple inches covered the road. Crazy.

The Baby Game

Below is a link to our baby stats pool...put in your guess for when Baby Bass 3 will join us, whether it's a boy or girl, and his/her vital stats.

Just enter "BabyBass" under "invited guests" at the upper left corner.

For purposes of comparisson, here are the birth stats on the girls:

1. Born 3 days before the "due date," at 10:29 p.m. She was 7 lbs. and 19.5 inches.
2. Born on the "due date," at 3:30 p.m. She was 6 lbs. 11 oz. and 19.5 inches.

Play time

The girls have really been into dress-up again recently. I think it helps that I went through the dress-up box and "tidied" it! They also love playmobil and dolls - we get hours of playtime out of their collection of playmos, Only Hearts Club dolls, and various stuffed animals. Somehow they all go together - usually in the wooden doll house or in the bed of their giant wooden semi.
The other favored game is "having a baby."

Joining the blogging world

I have been so inspired by my friend Rixa's blog that I decided to try one myself. We'll see how often I really update...but in theory, this will be a good way for family and friends to keep current on the goings-on in our lives. Wish me luck!
