Wall Rats

We joined the city recreation center this month - a lovely, newer facility with a gym, fitness center, classes out the wazoo (seriously, 20+ a day), an indoor running track (a mere 14 laps to a mile), child care, a game room for the 8-15 crowd, AND a climbing wall! Sadly, Oliver is too young to climb - they have an age limit of five.

Liam (made it to the ceiling!):

Clara on one of the "medium" level climbs:

And Elfie (also made the top):

They all loved it - and fortunately, can climb many days a week now while I get my run/exercise in!

I was strong, and other tidbits.

  • No cats at Saddleback. We came to our senses and decided that despite the cuteness, the kids would get "over" the cat-love, a pet costs a lot of money that we just don't have to spare right now, and with a home-office, I'd rather be "pet-free" for those with sensitivities. Phew.
  • The kids are all doing great in school; Oliver is doing three days of preschool at the local high school Child Development Center; Dan and I are plugging away with our work and home commitments, trying not to let four kids take us over completely ;)
  • I am headed to NYC on the 18th for a week to visit my sister (and my mom will be there for a few days, too)! Southwest had a smoking deal last month and I jumped on it.
  • Still running...my personal bests so far (treadmill) are a 66 minute 10K and a 30 minute 5K. I am definitely looking forward to days cool enough to run outside, but for now thankful to have the indoor options.
