We always joke about this at our house: back when my mom and grandma were doing it, we just called it "being cheap". Now it's "green". Whatever! It just makes sense! :)
I definitely am planning on recycling costumes! I didn't have any that I could re-use this year (Zari outgrew all of hers, and Dio's still too small for her old ones) but next year he'll definitely fit her old dragon costume.
